From “Sexy Beasts” to “Too Hot to Handle,” Netflix is quickly becoming our go-to destination for unique reality TV dating shows. There’s no shortage of drama or sexy bachelors or bachelorettes. A show that’s stayed in viewers’ minds is “Dating Around,” which debuted on the streaming platform in February 2019, per The Cinemaholic. As the title suggests, the show follows participants as they go on multiple blind dates in an attempt to find the one they are most connected to romantically. Then it drives the rest of its contestants mercilessly toward marriage even though it knows that most of its engagements are soon broken.

A bank run on Silicon Valley Bank had begun earlier in the week. Playing most of the way without ailing star Dylan Disu, the Longhorns — the highest seed left after No. 1s Alabama and Houston lost earlier in the night — built a lead by halftime. No one on the show has ever said, “I hate Positano,” or, “I love to vacation among sewer rats.” But she is worried, making sure a man she can’t see finds her acceptable. Adventurous Elena isn’t afraid to throw verbal punches while dating in São Paulo. But a suitor with a unique life story may be a game changer. It’s easy to see whyDating Aroundis underrated when compared toLove is BlindorToo Hot to Handle.Simply put,Dating Arounddoesn’t focus on drama or feature long episodes you need to invest time in. And in a twist of events, it makes sense why Basra didn’t end up with anyone—because she ended up finding love with James Adolphus, one of the show’s directors.

But the two still seem to be friendly, as they both still follow the other on Instagram with the occasional comments here and there. While Luke is still looking for his ladylove, it looks like Victoria found her happy ending, getting engaged in May 2019. Last but not least, this Australian dating show, The Single Wives, focuses on four women who were all formally married.

I remember the pandemonium on social media the day the first Sexy Beasts trailer was unveiled. The reactions were hilarious, as people made jokes about this being a win for furry culture. But Sexy Beasts is basically a boring version of Love Is Blind, in which contestants are dressed up in full animal costumes, as to create some sort of charade. This isn’t a dating show, per se, but the dating sequences are immaculate. The Japanese reality series is basically a much less messy Real World, but the relationships are always reeeeeealllllyyyy slow burns.

None of the other situations are quite as dramatic as that, though there are frank confrontations, You’re just not my type grimaces, and nicked egos. Conversely, the participants might get a welcomed kiss or a nice compliment. Some even—stay with me—seem to simply start enjoying themselves in the moment. What propels these people to the meet-up, and viewers to the next episode, feels like the same thing that defines any good Netflix binge, or Tinder swipe-athon, or Candy Crush spiral. It’s a game, but one you’re only dimly aware can ever end.

Justin’s five dates are Barbara, Lilly, Ashley, Assata and Ann. Before Dating Around, Justin was in a relationship for six years. He broke up with his girlfriend two and a half years before the show filmed. As he explained to his dates, he was in the same relationship since he was 21, so now, his early 30s are the first time he’s really dating. He’s got smooth moves, swift jokes and a soft spot for his mama.

But something I love about it is that it really does kick the drama up to a ten and is enjoyable to watch. There’s a Season 2 on the way, which is also going to feature a predominantly queer cast, so that’s super cool. Too Hot To Handle blew up on Netflix when it first came out in 2020, so much so that it received a second season not that long after. The show became so popular that now it has a Brazilian version on the streaming platform, too.

At the end of the episode, the single has to pick one person from the five dates to take on a second date.
